About Us

ArtSites was founded in 1984 by fiber artist Shirley Waxman and Leslie Montroll for the purpose of sharing ideas and opportunities among a diverse group of Jewish artists who usually worked individually in their own studios. The ArtSites name was chosen as a play on words because there was no actual permanent site in sight. For the past 24 years, ArtSites has provided venues for Jewish artists to display and sell their work through periodic self-sponsored shows throughout the metropolitan area.

ArtSites presently has a permanent showcase at ArtSites, the gallery, at Tikvat Israel Congregation, 2200 Baltimore Road, Rockville, MD 20851.

Through the years, the group has grown from an original core of ten to a vibrant, creative group of more than 30 artists working in glass, painting, jewelry, photography, pottery and fiber. In addition to maintaining a permanent retail location, Artsites offers classes and workshops in various crafts to members of the community, Jewish schools, and synagogues throughout the year. In addition, several offer individual or small group classes in their home studios.A speaker's bureau is available for Jewish organizations and community groups. We offer a panel or individual speakers on a wide variety of topics related to art and Jewish art in particular.

We do not have regular summer hours, but can arrange to meet you at the gallery. Contact Shirley Waxman (301-299-5526) or Angie Hersh (301-293-0873) for information.
